On January 23, 1868, a bill was presented to the new Ontario Legislature to regulate the practice of dentistry in Ontario. The bill was accompanied by a petition signed by 68 dentists, 38 physicians, one judge, the mayor of Toronto and one druggist. The bill was passed on March 4, 1868, incorporating the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. This was the first dental act to be adopted anywhere in the world.
