On January 1, 1994, the Regulated Health Professions Act became law in Ontario. It covered 23 health professions, including dentists, physicians, and nurses. Key aspects of the RHPA included public members on governing councils, establishment of quality assurance programs for regulated health professions, the establishment of the Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council, and the controlled acts concept where certain specified activities are restricted to certain health professionals.
